NEUW presents ART/WORK
Featuring Toby Corton
Growing up in London with the city’s arts and music scene on his doorstep was formative for musician and photographer Toby Corton. “From a young age, I’ve always been into performing. Probably it's performing that got me into music – I found that music was a way to perform my own creativity, rather than playing a part,” he says. For Corton, aware of his difference growing up as a queer kid, creativity has always provided a “shelter” – and it’s his own experiences that continue to inform his song writing, as well as his image-making work.
“I'm living life as a queer person growing up and in London, a lot of my creativity I think is informed by that.” For the #NeuwArtWork series, Corton invited us into his studio to talk about what inspires him and why he feels compelled to tell the stories he does through his music.
